Inside Copenhagen Fashion Week: The Looks That Stole The Streets
All Eyes on Copenhagen as it kicks off fashion week!
Being the "little sister" to fashion meccas like Paris, New York and London isn't always a bad thing—especially when that little sister is the vibrant city of Copenhagen. While it may not have the same scale as its more famous siblings, Copenhagen has steadily grown, creating its own identity in the global fashion industry. And if this year's street-style looks are anything to go by, it certainly looks like all eyes will be on Copenhagen to bring that much loved Scandi-cool vibe.
Running from the 27th-31st January, and packed full of sartorial inspiration for the seasons ahead, Copenhagen's streets served as the perfect blend of innovation and tradition, with designers showcasing their exciting new trends. With colours brought forward from seasons previous, it is clear that those rich tones such as chocolate that we fell in love with last year remain popular, whilst vibrant new shades emerge for their time in the spotlight - think cherry lacquer, a successor to the beloved burgundy.
Copenhagen : Colours
The weather in Copenhagen may have been grayer than usual, but that certainly didn't dampen the spirits of our favourite street-style stars! Combining the biggest pantone trend of Mocha Mousse and burgundy, with pattern, brights and plaids, it's easy to see why Copenhagen is always a city to watch for cooler and edgier looks. We also love the mix of ages, with younger and older stars attending in their best looks!
Copenhagen: Must Have Accessories
It is quite rare that we discuss accessories so early on - if at all - at fashion week, but Copenhagen was full of fun and unique accessories - from bag charms and micro bags to colourful tights.
One of the standout accessories this season were the many micro-bags and bag charms on display - it was very much more is better!
At every turn on the busy streets of Copenhagen, eagle eyes could spot a handbag decked out with several maximalist bag charms - whether cartoon characters and cowboy boots to micro mini bags themselves.
Something else we loved to see were balaclavas and headscarves - often spotted during Copenhagen's fashion weeks - this year they were mixed with pill-box hats and furry numbers, which provided both fashion and functional flair. It looks like this is a trend that will see us into the season ahead. And when the weather is a little warmer? Simply add in an old-hollywood style silk headscarf!
Whilst we may draw the line at the no trousers trend, we did love the chance it gave to show off colourful hosiery. The "No Pants Trend" has been making waves for some seasons now, with the fashion-elite embracing bold body positivity and self-expression.
This season, the trend came in many forms, with Copenhagen attendee's experimenting with texture and layering - from sheer lace to colourful tights peeking out beneath structured blazers and wool coats.
Copenhagen: The Rise Of Office Core
Designers on and off the runway redefined power dressing, with tailored silhouettes beneath oversized wool and leather trench style coats, whilst the classic tie was used as a symbol of strength and sophistication.
Office-Core emerged as a trend to look out for as designers such as MKDT and Won Hundred infused their womenswear offering with traditional masculine elements. Designed to be versatile across genders, we increasingly saw shirting and tanks layered atop tailored trousers.
Copenhagen: So Long Leopard, Hello Cow
Whilst leopard print may have reigned supreme for decades, it's resurgence in fashion circles, could be attributed largely to the mob-wife trend of last year! Well this season, it appears it may be time to bid farewell to leopard and hello to cow print! That's right, if the streets of Copenhagen were anything to go by, the print of this season is more, well, barnyard inspired! Don't believe us? See for yourself!
